For those who haven't heard the LeMons series has spawned a new competitor; the ChumpCar World Series. Also based on $500 beaters the series features road racing in either 24 hour format or pairs of 7 hour enduros. Their first event will be a 24 this Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at Portland International Raceway. They plan at least one event every month from there on. Of particular note for racers here is that they are scheduled for a 24 hour event next September 25-26 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton! Their web site states: "This is a premier, 5-star track! Therefore, we had to put on a 5-star race… a 24-hour endurance race that will be unlike any other!" You can find out more at their web site, http://chumpcar.com

For those interested, know this... we've spent ~1500 each at this point including safety gear. I don't forsee this being something you can do for less than 2k per person including everything.

i'm not complaining... Just warning would-be lemons people that it's slightly more expensive than "get a $500 car>Split six ways> PROFIT!"

Yeah I think I'm at 1700 or so with my gear. Not cheap by any means, but definitely cheaper than doing it alone.

Bright side is next year we will have a car and shouldn't have the cage, gear, and other crazy expenses associated.

Are you guys talking about your own driver's suits / helmets / etc. when you're quoting $1700-$2000 "with gear?"

I haven't paid much attention to the Lemons / Chumpcar stuff in the past, but if it's coming to our backyard maybe I need to pay a little more attention.... :D

Yeah, I'd say about $1k of that quote is safety gear. So if you have it (which you do :)), it's probably more like $1k. Also for people who want to get in, there are safety suit packages that considerably less (maybe $500 total instead of $1000).

Yeah just 2 layer stuff, gloves, suit, shoes, neck support, helmet, and etc.

I got a new helmet to as my other SA05 one was a bit to heavy. Got a nicer helmet since I use it so much, decided it was time to splurge a bit.

We all have 700 each into the car itself at this point. A good portion of that pot ($1500)went for entry fee's and etc.

Yep, a good time and yep you will need to spend money on the safety gear, I also purchase a new helmet because mine was going to be out dated soon plus it was a Motorcycle rating.

It all depends on what you need to do to the car after you find one also cause the less you pay for a car the more likely you will have to spend more to make it last 24 hours, we got pretty lucky with our civic purchase and it really didn't need any big repairs.
Then you start buying tires, brakes, role cage and other things that you had just in case.

Oh and plan on spending some time on getting it ready "yikes" worth every minute though on the track and with the team!

Thanks Team :!:
